I’ve played most of my life, but just with friends and family. I thought I was good but I’m getting smoked online.

Keep in mind that online you don’t have the benefit of facial expressions nor the advantage of knowing the personalities of other players. It’s easy to fall back into the patterns you use with friends and family, so try to avoid that!
